Mrs. Boothe asked everyone to write their vision of what they would like their lives to be in 5, 10, and 20 years. She explained for these ideas to become reality, each person must take action now to start the process. Kim Chiu, the Director of Career & Technical Education at Utah Valley University, accompanied by several interns and staff members came and shared information about educational opportunities at UVU.
We had a super fun visit from a group of local moms that meet each week. They brought their infants and toddlers and sang songs, read a Christmas story, taught us dance moves from the Nutcracker ballet and provided a marshmallow snowman craft. They surprised us with gifts for the children of our students stashed around the Christmas tree. We wrapped up the activity with donuts and milk. We were privileged to have Claudia Marsden, a Nebo District Visual Arts Specialist, come for two days of training in watercolor painting. She taught about watercolor techniques and provided supplies for students to create a painting of holiday ornaments. It’s always fun to see everyone’s individual creativity. Thanks so much Claudia!
This fall a group of Legacy students have been competing in volleyball in the Springville City leagues. For many students, this is their first time playing an organized sport. Maria Yazzie, their coach, says she sees improvement. “They went from being afraid to hit the ball, to hitting it, and are now doing a really good job.” In the early games the Legacy score was 2-3 points, but in more recent games the score has jumped to 15 and 18 points. We are thrilled to announce they won their final game of the season!
We are focusing on gratitude this month and recently had the opportunity to make wooden signs reminding us: “There is always, always something to be thankful for.” Students had a choice of colored papers and dried leaves to customize their sign. Mrs. Boothe has encouraged the students to make time to write down three things they are thankful for each day in their planners. Thanks to Sharon and Cindy for pressing leaves and preparing the supplies!
November 15, 2017 is National Education Support Professionals Day and honors all secretaries, classroom aides, cafeteria workers, maintenance workers, bus drivers and the others that help and do their part in making public schools great for every child so that they can be safe, learn, grow and achieve. Mrs. Boothe recognized our secretaries, child care managers, and maintenance staff with a festive gift basket.

Mindy is one of our Child Care Managers and has 35 years of experience in child care. She ran a daycare in her home for 20 years and has worked in Nebo District for 14 years.
Mindy’s been married 32 years, has 4 children and 4 grandchildren. She enjoys baking, reading, camping and yard work, but what she loves most of all is spending time with her family. Her advice to her children: “Life is what you make it. You can choose to be happy no matter what.”
The festivities began with a photo area (courtesy of Sharon Hales) provided for our students to have their pictures taken with their children. Our guest photographer, Rachel Graff, donated her time to photograph everyone. Then everyone posed for a group photo. Our next activity was story time with Mrs. Boothe. She read several short Halloween stories interspersed with literacy tips for children. Following story time was the much-awaited Trick-or-Treating through the hall to each classroom. The children were encouraged to thank each person who gave them a treat. Mrs.
