Christmas Festivities

Submitted by jane.wilkins on

We had a visit from a group of local moms that meet each week to take their kids on outings and socialize together. They believe in getting on a child's level and interacting with them. We enjoyed the actions with the story "The House That Santa Built", moving along with the Christmas Freeze Dance, and an edible marshmallow snowman craft. They surprised us with gifts for the children of our students stashed around the Christmas tree. We wrapped up the activity with donuts and milk. Thanks so much to Annalece Misiego for organizing the visit and to Mom Club!

Christmas Crafts

Crafts are a fun way to express our creativity, create some inexpensive decorations, learn new skills and spend quality time with family and friends. Sharon and Cindy prepared all the materials for Frosty the Snowman Top Hat Table Centerpieces and Popsicle Stick Christmas Tree Ornaments. Students enjoyed the opportunity to take a break from studies and try something new. We sure do appreciate all the work Sharon and Cindy put into our craft activities!

The Director of Career & Technical Education at Utah Valley University, Kim Chiu, came and shared information about educational opportunities and scholarships at UVU. She described the diverse programs available and encouraged our students to continue their educational momentum. Director Chiu emphasized that 1-2 year programs will increase their earning capacity, and credits earned in MTEC courses can count toward UVU requirements.

Mrs. Boothe has been leading an enrichment activity on Wednesday afternoons teaching our students how to read music and play the piano. Most students had no previous musical training. The first week they began learning about octaves and note values. The second week they were introduced to the Treble Clef and Base Clef, time signatures and staff. Students were paired up on electronic keyboards.

Wednesday, November 14, 2018 was Education Support Professionals day and we honored our secretaries, custodial staff, and child care managers that help to make our school great for every student so that they can be safe, learn, grow and achieve. Mrs. Boothe recognized our ESP  with gift baskets. They do so much behind the scenes to make things run smoothly. These support professionals provide invaluable services and are essential partners in the student’s education process. Thanks for all you do!

Volleyball Team

For the past five years, Legacy students have had the opportunity to play volleyball in the Springville City leagues. Mrs. Maria Yazzie, who teaches math and science, also coaches the volleyball team. She said that more girls were interested in being on the team this year than ever before. She also reported that the team had the most consistent attendance, the best retention and the least drama. This year they improved their record by winning two games and one set! Way to represent our school, Crusaders!

Halloween 2018

The festivities were kicked off Tuesday with a craft activity about the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Mrs. Boothe talked about family traditions and learning activities for children. Then she introduced the craft using a paint stirring stick, a clothespin, pipe cleaners and craft foam. The message of the finger play is that the spider never gives up. We may forget the benefits of nursery rhymes and finger plays. They help children with fine motor skills, and with emerging literacy skills such as phonemic awareness and rhyming. It is never too early to read and sing with a child.
