They Came Bearing Gifts

Christmas came early thanks to UVU! A team from the Career & Technical Education office delivered gifts for our students and their children. Through UVU Service Learning, Campus Outreach, and department donations, they collected books, toys, clothes, and blankets for the children and personal items for the moms.

Volleyball Team 2019

Once again, Legacy students played volleyball in the Springville City league. It was an exciting season. More girls expressed interest than in prior years and had a great time. None of the players had much volleyball experience, but their improvement was obvious. Teams are coed, so Coach Yazzie invited a young man and his sister to join the Legacy team. She said having a full roster meant players could rotate in and out for a break. Coach Yazzie had the team use a new method to train. She gave them a list of skills to practice on their own and held one group practice per week.

WIC is a nutrition program that helps families learn about healthy eating through nutrition education, counseling, nutritious foods, and help accessing health care. These services are provided to low-income women, infants, and children through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program, popularly known as WIC. Some people may not realize WIC provides free community classes about breastfeeding and parent-infant topics such as infant massage, baby behaviors, car seat safety and babywearing. Thanks to Jennifer for the informative presentation.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Break begins tomorrow, Wednesday, November 27 and school resumes Monday, December 2, 2019. Today, our Legacy family celebrated Thanksgiving together. We invited everyone to bring a favorite food item to share. There were so many wonderful dishes! It was a special time for us to be together and enjoy good food, good company, and recognize all we have to be thankful for. We have a remarkable group of the nicest people at Legacy. At the end of the day, Mrs.

National Education Support Professionals Day

Wednesday, November 20th is National Education Support Professionals Day, and with that we want to let all our truly fabulous child care staff, custodial staff, secretaries, lunch workers, bus drivers and nurse know how much we appreciate and value what they do for our school. Business runs so smoothly because of all of their dedicated work and efforts. We are certain no school has a better support staff. Thanks a million to each of you!

Legacy Graduate Returns as Guest Speaker

Students had the opportunity to hear from Stephanie Berry, who graduated from Legacy in 2017 with five kids. She shared her story of getting pregnant as a teen, trying an alternative school setting, and quitting to get a job. Over the next 20 years, she worked many entry-level jobs for minimum wage. During that time, she tried to get her GED and quit, she tried to complete packets for school credit, but gave up. In hindsight, she recognizes that she did not have a support system. The struggle was so hard and her self-esteem was so low that she tried to end her life.

Autumn Craft

Marcy had a great idea to cut some vinyl leaves, acorns and letters to make these autumn blocks. Everyone enjoyed putting their own touch on their project and each was uniquely charming! Thanks to Marcy, Cindy and Sue for preparing the wood by sanding and staining it.

Donations

A former student organized a lovely collection of items our students could use; adult coats; fuzzy socks; and sugar cookie decorating kits. From another donor, we received handmade hooded children’s towels, and matching bib and burp cloths. We are so grateful for these generous gifts!
