Delicious pancakes, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit started the last day of school before the holiday break. After the yummy breakfast, we played some Christmas games with the kids and sang songs. Annalece Misiego sang Grown Up Christmas List accompanied by Randy Boothe on the piano. Then a certain jolly person with a white beard and a red suit arrived shaking his jingle bells. Everyone had a chance to visit with Santa, but some little ones experienced stranger anxiety!
We had a wonderfully fun visit from a group of local moms that meet each week with their infants and toddlers. Meeting with other moms is good for the children’s socialization and introduces them to new experiences. Sometimes moms feel isolated, so the group provides support and friendship. Annalece Misiego, the group’s founder, said, “Women need women!” First, we read The House That Santa Built that encourages young readers to get in on the act thanks to sound prompts such as "squeak," "stomp," and "jingle." Next, we grooved to the Christmas Freeze Dance.
Christmas came early thanks to UVU! A team from the Career & Technical Education office delivered gifts for our students and their children. Through UVU Service Learning, Campus Outreach, and department donations, they collected books, toys, clothes, and blankets for the children and personal items for the moms.
Once again, Legacy students played volleyball in the Springville City league. It was an exciting season. More girls expressed interest than in prior years and had a great time. None of the players had much volleyball experience, but their improvement was obvious. Teams are coed, so Coach Yazzie invited a young man and his sister to join the Legacy team. She said having a full roster meant players could rotate in and out for a break. Coach Yazzie had the team use a new method to train. She gave them a list of skills to practice on their own and held one group practice per week.
Students enjoyed the opportunity to make adorable snowmen decorations today. The structure of the snowmen consists of two rolls of toilet paper and white cotton fabric.
WIC is a nutrition program that helps families learn about healthy eating through nutrition education, counseling, nutritious foods, and help accessing health care. These services are provided to low-income women, infants, and children through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program, popularly known as WIC. Some people may not realize WIC provides free community classes about breastfeeding and parent-infant topics such as infant massage, baby behaviors, car seat safety and babywearing. Thanks to Jennifer for the informative presentation.
