Service – Tying Quilts

We have a tradition of tying quilts each fall to donate to a local shelter. Tying quilts is a great group project; it goes quickly with many hands working together. It takes very little skill or experience and they make lovely warm covers. Several were set up in our main hall and remained for a few days so students could add a few stitches as they had free time until all the quilts were finished. Doing a service for someone else helps us gain perspective about our own challenges. It was fun to work together and rewarding to give back to the community.

Christmas Festivities

A certain jolly person with a white beard and a red suit arrived shaking his jingle bells. Everyone had a chance to visit with Santa, but some little ones experienced stranger anxiety! Santa’s visit opened a day full of fun activities!

Mrs. Boothe read a funny Christmas story called Are You Grumpy Santa?  Sometimes, even the merriest, most cheerful guy on the planet wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. Santa is ready to throw in the towel, when at his very last house he is reminded of what Christmas is really about - the gift of love.

Field Trip: My Value Activities

Repeat after me, “I am really important and can do wonderful things!” Many students get discouraged, especially during a pandemic, trying to complete their schooling, earn money, and make decisions about the future. Ours add raising a child or children to their responsibilities. We all benefit from being reminded how important we are. Generous donors made it possible for us to take the students shopping at My Sister’s Closet in Spanish Fork and to a wonderful lunch at Ruby River in Provo.

Christmas Crafts: Felt Ornaments

Each family develops their own traditions. One introduced to our students was making simple felt ornaments. They are non-breakable, store flat, are lightweight and inexpensive to make. Working with your hands to create something gives you a sense of accomplishment and pride.
