Our guest speaker presented information on how drugs of all kinds affect our brains. April Yazzie is an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor at Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake (UICSL). Adolescence and young adulthood is a time of significant growth and development in the brain. Teens’ developing brains are more susceptible than the brains of adults to damage from outside influences. This means substance use during the teen years creates a more distinct risk for immediate and lasting harm.
