We enjoyed the beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery on our recent field trip to Big Springs Hollow Trail in Provo Canyon. This gentle hike is great for families. Hiking has many benefits! It is a healthy form of stress management. Hiking is good for you physically, but it is also a great way to unplug from technology and bond with family members. Taking children on a hike can be educational: you can listen to nature sounds and try to identify them; children can sort and classify items they have found; make observations and record them; they can also learn about basic first aid for blisters, scrapes, or insect bites! Hiking helps develop confidence for young and old. We feel a sense of accomplishment when we problem solve and reach our goals. In addition to these benefits, hiking is fun! Kids love dirt, rocks, water, insects, and wildlife. New discoveries and scavenger hunts add to the fun. Several of the moms mentioned their babies were alert and smiling the entire time. After our short hike, Mrs. Boothe supplied a picnic lunch of empanadas, veggies, chips, cookies and drinks. It was a great day to be a Legacy Crusader!
