What does Pi mean? Our math teacher, Mrs. Yazzie, gathered everyone on March 14 (3/14) to review and celebrate mathematics and National Pi Day. We watched a video called Pi Explained in 3:14 and a piece of pie was promised to everyone who could share something they learned about Pi!
- Pi is a letter in the Greek alphabet
- Pi is an irrational number, which means it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern
- Pi = Circumference/Diameter
- Pi is a constant number, meaning that for all circles of any size, Pi will be the same
- Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point
- Pi is extremely useful when solving geometry problems involving circles
- Archimedes was the first to record an algorithm calculating Pi
- Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day in 1879
